What can you expect after your first visit? For most clients (around 90% or so), you’ll see that the hair is damaged after the treatment and appears to be growing extremely slowly, but it’s actually falling out. This process takes about 10 days to occur.
For a small percentage of clients, the hair will not shed completely after the 10-day period. This is not common, but it does happen periodically. The hairs will be damaged and will appear to be growing slowly and will look slightly thinner. The client may receive one or a few treatments during which this occurs, but they will eventually begin to shed after the treatment.
And there’s also a very small percentage of clients whose hair doesn’t fall out, and they don’t see much improvement after the first appointment or a few sessions. Laser hair removal is a science, but sometimes it’s very difficult. As technicians, we can only see the hair from the skin’s surface, not what’s happening beneath it. Sometimes, the hair looks darker from the outside, but it’s actually lighter and finer inside the follicle. Or, in some cases, when the client’s skin is darker, we really have to be careful with the treatment because if the laser intensity is too high, we can burn the skin (even with our amazing Alma laser hair removal system, which, when done correctly, rarely burns anyone). We advise clients that we need to be conservative with the first treatment, especially on the face, because we never want to burn anyone. If the result isn’t exactly what you or I want, we can always adjust it at the next visit to try to achieve better results. We always want you to be happy, but we also want you to stay safe and avoid burns! We can teach it to help us by letting us know what it should be feeling so we know we’re directing energy to the follicle. It takes a village to win a battle!
