Hair Restoration in Tampa: A Needle-Free Approach to Thinning Hair with Alma TED
Hair loss conversations at Perfectly Bare Laser often start with something small.
A client notices that her part looks a little wider in photos. Someone realizes he can see more scalp around his crown than he could a year ago. Others tell us they are simply finding more hair in the shower or on their brush than they used to.
The natural question is: What can I actually do about it?
There isn’t one answer for everyone. Hair loss has many possible causes, and some require medical evaluation before an aesthetic treatment should even be considered. But for appropriate men and women looking for hair restoration in Tampa without injections or surgery, one of the technologies we are particularly excited about at Perfectly Bare Laser is Alma TED.
TED takes a different approach from many of the hair restoration treatments people have heard about. There is no blood draw and no scalp injection. Instead, the technology combines acoustic sound waves with air pressure as part of a non-invasive treatment designed to support the delivery of a topical hair-care formula.
We have made Alma TED the focus of our hair restoration program at Perfectly Bare Laser because it gives us an option for clients who want to address thinning hair but may not want to begin with needles, injections or surgery.
Just as importantly, we believe clients should understand what TED can — and cannot — do before deciding whether it makes sense for them.
First, Why Is Your Hair Thinning?
Before talking about treatments, it helps to talk about hair loss itself.
Hair naturally moves through growth, transition and resting phases. Some shedding is completely normal. The concern begins when you notice a persistent change: more shedding than usual, a widening part, reduced density, a changing hairline or more visible scalp.
One of the most common causes is androgenetic alopecia, often called male- or female-pattern hair loss. Genetics and hormones can cause follicles to gradually produce finer and shorter hairs. Men may notice recession around the hairline or thinning at the crown. Women often first notice a widening part or more diffuse thinning.
But pattern hair loss isn’t the only possibility.
Stress, illness, hormonal changes, pregnancy and postpartum changes, menopause, thyroid issues, nutritional deficiencies, rapid weight changes and certain medications can all affect the hair cycle.
This is why we don’t believe the first question should be, Which hair restoration treatment should I buy?
A better question is:
Why is my hair changing?
If you are experiencing sudden or dramatic shedding, completely bald patches, scalp pain, significant itching or redness, or hair loss that could be related to an underlying medical condition, that deserves evaluation by an appropriate medical provider or dermatologist.
Once you better understand what is happening, you can have a much more useful conversation about your options.
What Is Alma TED Hair Restoration?
TED stands for TransEpidermal Delivery.
Alma TED is a non-invasive system that uses acoustic sound waves combined with air pressure as part of the process of delivering a topical hair-care formula across the scalp.
Why does that matter?
Your skin is designed to be a barrier. Simply putting something on the surface doesn’t necessarily mean it will penetrate effectively.
The science of using ultrasound to increase transdermal or trans-epidermal transport has been studied for decades. Research has demonstrated that low-frequency ultrasound can increase transport across the skin, and acoustic-pressure ultrasound has also been studied as a trans-epidermal delivery technology.

Alma describes its proprietary trans-epidermal technology as using low-frequency ultrasound to increase the penetration of topical formulations.

For the client sitting in our Tampa office, though, the most noticeable difference is much simpler:
No needles. No blood draw. No scalp injections.
That makes TED an interesting option for people who have been thinking about doing something for thinning hair but have hesitated because they don’t want a more invasive treatment.
What Does an Alma TED Treatment Feel Like?
This is one of the first things clients ask us.
Understandably, people hear “hair restoration treatment” and imagine injections all over the scalp.
That’s not the TED experience.
There are no needles involved in the treatment.
Alma’s published clinical evaluation of its TED system reported a mean pain score of zero across treatment sessions, with no adverse events recorded in that evaluation. The same study reported increases in measured hair density following a series of treatments.
It is important to put that research into context. This is Alma-sponsored research rather than a large independent clinical trial.

We think that distinction is worth making.
There is promising data around TED, but hair restoration is an area where clients are routinely exposed to dramatic before-and-after photographs and big promises. We would rather explain what we know, acknowledge the limitations of the research and set realistic expectations.
Hair doesn’t grow overnight, regardless of the treatment being used.
Our Approach to Alma TED at Perfectly Bare Laser
At Perfectly Bare Laser, we don’t approach TED as a one-and-done appointment.
Our Tampa hair restoration program begins with a series of four Alma TED treatments, typically spaced about four weeks apart. We also incorporate supportive hair-care products and LED light therapy into our protocol.
Why a series?
Hair grows slowly, and hair follicles are not all in the same stage of the growth cycle at the same time. Evaluating a hair restoration treatment therefore requires patience and consistency.
This is also why we encourage clients to look at progress over months rather than checking their hair in the mirror every morning.
Good baseline photographs are surprisingly valuable. Take them in similar lighting, at similar angles and with the hair positioned the same way. Changes that are difficult to recognize day to day can be much easier to appreciate when you compare consistent photographs over time.
Does Alma TED Actually Grow Hair?
This deserves a careful answer.
Alma has published clinical data evaluating TED in men and women with pattern hair loss. Its study reported improvements in measurements including terminal hair growth and hair density following treatment.

There is also broader peer-reviewed research supporting the underlying concept of ultrasound-assisted trans-epidermal delivery.
For example, a randomized, double-blind study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology evaluated acoustic-pressure ultrasound as part of a trans-epidermal delivery approach.
That research concerned dermatologic applications rather than Alma TED hair restoration specifically, so it should not be presented as direct proof of hair regrowth.

That distinction matters to us.
TED-specific hair restoration evidence is still developing.
We don’t believe it is responsible to tell every client that TED will regrow a certain amount of hair or guarantee a particular result.
Your outcome can depend on why your hair is thinning, how advanced the loss is, follicle viability, genetics, health factors and how consistently you follow your treatment plan.
That is also why consultation comes first.
Alma TED vs. PRP for Hair Restoration
If you’ve already been researching hair loss treatments in Tampa, you’ve probably come across PRP.
PRP — platelet-rich plasma — uses a person’s own blood. Blood is drawn and processed to concentrate platelets, and the resulting PRP is then injected into targeted areas of the scalp.
There is published research supporting PRP for certain types of hair loss, and it may be an appropriate treatment for some people.
Perfectly Bare Laser does not currently offer PRP hair restoration.
Our focus is Alma TED, and the treatment experience is quite different. TED does not require drawing blood or injecting the scalp.
We don’t need to suggest that one treatment is universally “better” than the other. They are different approaches.
For someone specifically searching for needle-free hair restoration in Tampa, however, the lack of injections is one of the reasons TED gets people’s attention.
What About Minoxidil, Prescription Medication and Hair Transplants?
TED doesn’t exist in a vacuum.
Topical minoxidil is one of the most established options for androgenetic hair loss and may be appropriate for both men and women. The challenge for some people is consistency because treatment generally needs to continue to maintain its benefit.
Prescription medications can also play an important role. Finasteride, for example, may be prescribed to appropriate men with androgenetic hair loss. Other medical approaches may be considered for women depending on their health history and the reason for their thinning.
Those decisions belong in a conversation with a qualified medical provider who can evaluate risks, contraindications and potential side effects.
At the other end of the spectrum is hair transplant surgery.
For someone with more advanced loss and adequate donor hair, transplantation may provide an option that non-invasive treatments simply cannot replicate.
And that’s an important point:
TED isn’t a hair transplant.
We wouldn’t expect a non-invasive treatment to recreate a full head of hair in an area that has been completely bald for years. Earlier intervention, while viable follicles remain, is generally a very different situation from advanced, longstanding hair loss.
Who Should Consider Alma TED?
There isn’t a perfect checklist that can tell you whether TED is right for you without actually evaluating what’s happening with your hair.
In general, though, we tend to have this conversation with men and women who are noticing:
- Early-to-moderate thinning
- Increased shedding
- Reduced hair density
- A widening part
- Changes around the crown
- Changes to the hairline
TED can be especially appealing to someone who wants to avoid scalp injections and is comfortable committing to a series of treatments rather than expecting an instant fix.
On the other hand, sudden unexplained hair loss, significant scalp inflammation, scarring alopecia, completely bald areas or other unusual symptoms may require medical or dermatologic evaluation before an aesthetic hair restoration treatment is considered.
Sometimes the most responsible recommendation is not to start treatment yet.
Is It Better to Address Hair Loss Early?
If you’ve been watching your hair gradually become thinner for a year or two, it’s reasonable to have it evaluated rather than waiting until the change becomes much more pronounced.
That doesn’t mean panicking over every hair in the shower.
It means paying attention to a persistent change from what is normal for you.
Hair restoration tends to be a slow process. Whether someone chooses TED, medication, PRP, transplantation or another approach, meaningful evaluation generally happens over months rather than days.
We tell our clients to think about preserving and supporting the hair they still have — not simply waiting for significant loss and then trying to reverse it.
Why Perfectly Bare Laser Chose Alma TED
We’ve worked with advanced aesthetic technology for years at Perfectly Bare Laser, and we’re selective about what we bring into our Tampa practice.
What interested us about TED was the combination of technology and treatment experience.
Many clients want to do something about thinning hair but aren’t necessarily ready for surgery or repeated scalp injections.
TED gave us another option to discuss with them — one that fits naturally with our approach to non-invasive aesthetic treatments.
We also like that it allows us to have a more thoughtful conversation about hair restoration.
Not: Here’s a miracle treatment.
Instead:
Let’s understand what’s happening, determine whether you’re an appropriate candidate, establish a baseline and give the process enough time to evaluate your response.
That’s much closer to how we actually practice at Perfectly Bare Laser.
